Chattanooga National Cemetery (sooc)

I can only enter shots without the Honor Guardsmen in them in any contest.  I would think their weapons and the bugle would be ok and the cemetery shots would be ok, though.  Don't you?

I need to look and see if National Cemeteries and/or National Historic Places qualify for the Canon "in the park" contest...

The finial on a monument...

Flowers and flags left at a new grave...

Gate at the monument (erected 1870) to memorialize 12,956 citizens buried here (mostly unknown) from the Civil War...

I think this is one of four canons that are on end, probably set at the corners of the compass...  Looks like they were sealed with some sort of shiny metal ball...

First sighting of the light refraction - gotta look that up and get its actual name...  It's really faint here.  I don't know if it can be enhanced enough to really show it... But it gets better...

The light stayed with me... It got brighter actually...

The Tennessee Honor Guard.  I didn't ask - should have - but I think they do this on a volunteer basis...  I heard one of them say "I'm not getting paid for this..."

Honor Guard at ease.  They were practicing their 21 Gun Salute...

The Honor Guard guys thought it was funny that I'd take this picture...  I answered them with "it's a still life, gentlemen"...

Can the flag in the background be boosted without darkening the Honor Guard?

The bugler was very kind.  He was practicing "Taps" here...

Chad hates my Dutch Angle shots.  But it was the only way to get the light refraction and the sun and the bugler...

I don't think this can be fixed enough, but I tried to get the guns and the tombstones...

Best shot of the graves and the light refraction thingy...

  2. We should agree on what type of feedback we're looking for. You can absolutely say anything about one of my photos. It will not hurt my feelings. I want to learn and I need someone with an "eye" to give me honest feedback - what were you thinking? boring! try to focus next time...LOL! anything will be ok...However, I never want to hurt your feelings or give more feedback than you want. Nine times out of 10 you blow me away....however I know we're not always going to like the same pictures. Just tell me what works for you.

I thought I might could edit your post and then I could put comments below each photo, but it won't let me do that. I also thought I might try to put a calendar on our page, so that we could track deadlines, maybe even link to each contest, but I can't do that either.

Oh well...maybe we should number each photo on future posts and I will comment by number....I'm going to give this a shot...a quick comment and come back for more. Main thing - cool work! Looks like you had fun! the sun flare phenomena - amazing!!!! I've never seen that before!
I love the fist shot a lot!
Subject matter makes the second one difficult to view...not bad, but sad...I wish the flag on the right hadn't gotten cropped out - that's a little distracting for me.
Like the first headstone shot a lot! Great clouds add to the drama
I really like the bugler shots and oddly the dutch angle shot is a real fave...sometimes unusual angles distract and sometimes they really play up the mood...i like it here...the sun flare is awesome in the straight photo

I want to go shoot!!!! unfortunately, I have to go work and I'm hoping the technology will cooperate
Think Ryan has a stomach virus...his behavior was so off after his nap today...never seen so much anger and then he had a sick stomach just before dinner...Uhggggg! because there just wasn't enough going on already. Poor little guy. Woe is me. : )
